Writing and recording songs is great. What’s even better is playing them live. So I’m putting together a good backing band to help me play my songs out here in New Jersey/New York City area.
Bass and Guitar are in place but I have no drummer at the moment. I also need a good keyboard player who can handle all pianos, organs, horns and other things like that.
If you’reĀ a drummer or a keyboard player in the northern New Jersey area, and you are interested in playing some fun cross-genre music, feel free to contact me using the contact link in the main menuĀ or just e-mail me directly at lou @ loutambone.com. “One Step Closer” is another one of those songs that was written back in the mid-1990′s. I don’t remember much about where it came from but I do remember it was a quick write that all stemmed from one lyric: “One step closer to what love can be.” The phrase popped into my head and I just kept going with it, creating a little love story. In my latest attempt at genre-smashing, I’m heading south for some country flavor. I’m admittedly not a big country music fan and I’m not sure how this country song came out of me, but it did and so I’m releasing it into the wild today as part of the Workin’ Progress record. It’s called “Secrets” and you can check it out in the player on the site or on my other music pages listed under links. Read more... (446 words, estimated 1:47 mins reading time)

The next song in the Workin’ Progress release schedule is called “My Own Private Babylon”.
I guess you could say it’s written from the perspective of a fading rock star or other celebrity.
I have more songs in the works so stay tuned, but for now enjoy the new song and the many others you can hear on the site.
Thanks for visiting and listening!

Genre-smashing is something I like to do. I don’t like being put into a box. I like many styles of music. I like diversity. When writing a song, this concept is always floating around in the back of my mind. I try not to sit down and say, “I’m going to write a ________ song today.” That usually leads me nowhere and what does come out of me sounds very forced. When I “genre-smash” it has to come naturally. This song is a good example of how that can happen. Read more... (1242 words, estimated 4:58 mins reading time)

I’m currently in search of a few musicians for my backing band.
If you’re in the northern NJ area and have some time on your hands, let me know. I’m currently searching for a Drummer and Keyboard Player.
All you have to do is give a listen to a few of the songs here on the site. If you like them and would like to play them live with us, shoot me a message and we’ll set something up. If you’re a multi-instrumentalist, even better. All I ask is that you know your craft/instrument. Read more... (118 words, estimated 28 secs reading time)

This song is a very important one for me, but not because of its content or its meaning. It’s important to me because of what it represents, or represented at the time it was written. Let me explain.
I can’t say I’ve had too many regrets in life thus far. On a side note, I also think that people who say they have “no regrets” are pretty much full of shit. It’s a device that makes people feel good about themselves or helps them rationalize things, which is cool I guess…but I still think they’re full of shit. You mean to tell me you wouldn’t call for just ONE do-over for that one thing that happened that time…? Read more... (1851 words, estimated 7:24 mins reading time)

Today, I’m proud to release two new songs. They’re called “There You Are” and “Something New”.
They’re going to be part of the next record which will be called Workin’ Progress. I decided on that name because I’m going to be creating the album as time goes by and releasing tracks as they’re finished, instead of waiting and releasing a big bunch of songs all at once. Hence, the album will be a work in progress until it’s finished. Read more... (240 words, estimated 58 secs reading time)

“Mall Girl” has a long history. It was written in 1994 when I was a spry twenty-four year old. At that point, I had already been working in retail, usually in malls, for a number of years. I mainly worked in record stores or music stores. I was still single and in a band called “The Automatics”. It was a fun era that seems so distant now. Read more... I’ve been tattoo shopping for a while now but could never make up my mind what to do. I talked to a lot of people and ran many a design past them to gauge opinions. The usual stock answer was always something like, “You have to pick it because it has to mean something to you.” Sure, that’s true. But a little help is always welcome. I had picked out a few designs that my wife cringed at or my friends would say were too cliche and generic. Read more... (1575 words, 1 image, estimated 6:18 mins reading time)
