The first thing I remember about writing this song was the chorus. I had it clearly in my mind. I had the lyric and the melody/chords all in my head. From there it was a matter of just writing the rest of the song. I'm not sure where I heard the phrase "Tonight I Ride" but it must have gotten into my head at some point. I always picture some kind of Wagner-esque Viking on an armored horse marching into battle, but I digress.

This song is about an aging rock star, sung from his point of view. He's an amalgam of sorts. I guess you could say he's based on a few characters, both real and fictional.

Here's my latest definition of feeling old: Speaking to someone under a certain age about music, referring to a collection of published songs as an "album" and then subsequently being looked at as if I had suddenly lapsed into Greek. "What's an album?" they usually ask.

I play drums for a couple of my friend Scott Lea's productions. One is Johnny Retro - an 80's new wave cover band. The other is a really fun project called Look Sharp! which is a Joe Jackson tribute band. However, it focuses only on the first two Joe Jackson records - Look Sharp! and I'm the Man.
